2 Fall Exterior Home Improvements To Make

Now that the hot summer months are dwindling down, it is a great time to get outside and make some home improvements before Old Man Winter moves in. Below are 2 things you may want to consider doing for your home.

Carport

Even if you have a garage, adding a carport can give you more space to protect your cars, as well as a cover for you when it is raining outside. Two types of carports you can choose are:

  • A prefabricated metal canopy: If you want a carport that is a permanent addition to your home, this type is a good choice. It is constructed with galvanized steel, and is easy to assemble once it arrives at your house. This is because the frame is already constructed, and the only thing you will have to do is to put the cover over it. The covers are typically made of polyethylene or tarpaulin.
  • Aluminum: This type of carport has aluminum rods for the frame. This makes it lightweight, but it is still durable and sturdy. An added benefit to aluminum is that it is resistant to rust.

Carports come in freestanding styles, as well as a structure that you can attach to a building, such as to your home. If you choose an attached carport, concrete flooring is common if you plan to park your car under it. You can also choose a floor that is made from stone or by laying brick and mortar. Many carports are made with a metal roof, but you can also choose a shingled roof. Visit Sauer & Sons Construction for more information about carports.

Patio

If you do not currently have a patio, installing one can give you an area outside where you can spend time with your family and friends. There are so many choices that it can be overwhelming. Start out by looking through patio designs in home improvement magazines and online. This can help give you an idea of the type of patio you want for your home. You should determine the size of the patio you would like. This main factors when considering this is the space you have to build it, and how you will use it. For example, you may use it just for you and your family, or you may want to entertain friends.

You also need to consider the patio finish you like best, such as pavers, stone, brick, or stamped concrete. You could also choose colored concrete, or exposed aggregate.

Visit a home supply store to look at these many options to help you choose what you like best.  You can also hire a patio designer to help you design a patio for your home.
